New York Daily NewsElizabeth WeitzmanThe first feature from Adam Bhala Lough is brashly passionate in its desire to express the power and validity of graffiti art. But it's also preachy and single-minded, populated by a world of sympathetic heroes and hissable villains.
Los Angeles TimesMark OlsenA remarkably compact and engaging overview of the history and ideology of this urban outlaw art form.
IGN MoviesBrian LinderBomb It lays out the history of graffiti art better than any other work that we can remember, and at the core of the film is a poignant social statement.
Time OutDavid FearThe subject is never less than fascinating, though the film's repetitive format and reiteration of the same points ad infinitum will wear you down before the paint can dry.
New York TimesLaura KernWhat distinguishes Jon Reiss's lively, sure-handed film from the rest is that it widens the spectrum by taking a comprehensively international viewpoint.
Chicago ReaderJonathan RosenbaumGenuinely global, multicultural, and multilingual in its urban perspectives.
User ReviewKevin PAnother fantastic doc about street art & graffiti, especially it's history & influence around the world.
User ReviewLesley NDocumentary about graffiti artists and their motivation, why they do what they do. Rather than just show New York, this one goes across the world, covering different pieces and different artists in Toykyo, Sao Paulo, Cape Town, Hamburg, London and shows how the different cultures and different cities influence their work.. Fascinating, entertaining and reasonably even handed view of the origins, development and politics of graffiti, and some beautiful art too, though I guess that depends on your personal view - is it artistic expression or unfettered vandallism? Included are some telling shots of giant billboards to make you ponder over the acceptability of mass corporate advertising in cities, when throwing up a colourful tag can get you arrested.
User ReviewAshley HWell shit I worked on it, so gotta give it five stars.
