TV GuideMaitland McDonaghThough the performances are surprisingly good - the characters are drawn with a broad brush, but the actors, almost all professional comics, hit all the right notes - the material just isn't funny enough to justify the film's length.
Arizona Daily StarPhil VillarrealSersen sneaks up behind the semi-obscure sport of paintball and hoists it up for an atomic wedgie.
New York Daily NewsElizabeth WeitzmanOverlong at just 91 minutes, Brant Sersen's sardonic sports mockumentary would have made a hilarious short film. Instead, it's a mildly amusing feature that takes a few too many potshots at some very broad targets.
eFilmCritic.comScott WeinbergFor the price of one hour's catering on your average Hollywood comedy, Blackballed delivers probably three times the laughs.
Filmcritic.comChristopher Nullnot enough to make Blackballed worth watching for more than a couple of giggles.
CinematicalChristopher CampbellThere isn't the same labored yet quotable wit ... that you'll find in some of the scripted satires, but part of the fun of improvisation is its spontaneous lack of polish.
Boston GlobeErin MeisterFueled by off-kilter characters, charming and funny -- if haltingly awkward -- dialogue, and a reasonable amount of thematic ingenuity, "Blackballed" succeeds as a modest tribute to the kind of aging boys club that idles for hours in somebody's parents' rumpus room, its members tossing around big-man talk but trapped in emotional adolescence.
Jam! MoviesJim SlotekIt doesn't have enough comic energy to support its plot.
IGN MoviesJeff OttoAn attempt at a Christopher Guest-style mockumentary minus the biting satire and wit.
User ReviewSean MI was lucky enough to catch this at the Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck, Michigan. I loved it so much, I saw it twice, and I never do that at festivals. This hilarious film stars Rob Corddry from The Daily Show. The film is about Bobby Dukes, a famous paintball star that was caught "wiping" during the championship match. After ten years, Dukes returns to the game, assembling a new team and hoping to gain back his title. The mockumentary is well done, though the laughs don't come right away, when they show up they don't leave. The teammates are all hilarious, and the side characters add to the comedy. Though the games are fun to watch, the comedy comes from training for the games. When Bobby gets his team together you can't help but laugh. Each member has their own great qualities, especially Rob Riggle and Paul Scheer. Writing this review, it's been two days since I last saw it, and I still keep laughing at some of the jokes. I really hope this movie makes it to theatres, I know people will check it out and love it. I saw the director after the film and he said he had a lot of great extra footage shot that he would love to include on the DVD, so I can't wait, I'll buy it first chance I get. See the movie, spread the word.
