Los Angeles based architect Michael Lewis and Russian language instructor Patricia Peterson - "Pete" to her friends - meet and quickly fall in love. Although Michael asked her before the news, they decide to get married after Pete announces that she's pregnant with his child. All these events happen before each has had a chance to meet the other's family. As Pete's La Jolla based parents, Ben and Claire Peterson, are traveling the world and will not be back in time for the wedding, Michael and Pete decide to hold the ceremony in Vancouver, where Michael grew up and where his parents, Howard and Marian Lewis, still live. Of the four parents, the one person who is seemingly not happy with what is transpiring in their children's lives is Claire, her uneasiness strengthened when she finally meets Michael for the first time far along into Pete's pregnancy, and views the wedding photographs. Her uneasiness is due to a long held secret she's been keeping, that secret which is now tearing her up inside because of the marriage. If she decides to divulge the secret, it will probably in turn destroy Michael and Pete's marriage as well as the baby's life, through no fault of their own.

| User ReviewAllan CBoy, I'd sure watch a lot more TV movies if they were as crazy as this one! Meredith Baxter Birney and Robert Alda are a young couple who become pregnant and are happy to share the good news with their parents, some of which who are played by Lana Turner and Robert Lansing, who are put into the uncomfortable position of having to tell the young couple they are in fact half-brother and sister. AWKWARD! They love each other, so should they stay together? Should they get an abortion? And how would they explain what they do to their friends and neighbors? This is about as over-the-top of a melodramatic situation as possible, but it's treated with genuine sincerity which makes the film interesting beyond a simple Jerry Springer freak show of a situation. The film is nothing brilliant, but I honestly did not know how it was going to end, which is more than I can say for most films. |
| User ReviewChristopher BI wouldn't have watched this, but 7 actors I can respect for their craft are in this twisted flick so... That one of a millions chance that a gal & guy from across the continent meet, fall in love, and get married - all without meeting their parents! Then to find out days before the wedding that the bride is pregnant... -OK this is certainly more of a chick-flick, especially with the weeks long delay to decide what to do. It must have seemed a better script than what this near turkey became, or maybe everyone involved just wanted to push societal buttons and hope for box-office gold. Truthfully 20 minutes could be cut from the middle hour and it wouldn't be missed. |
