Film Journal InternationalDavid NohTired, unfunny bacholor party/revenge comedy.
Los Angeles TimesKatie WalshEventually, it loses steam while riding a line between outrageousness and earnestness and never quite comes together.
Movie NationRoger MooreThere are plenty of possibilities set up here, most of them blown. There’s no Mike Tyson, no Bengal tiger, no Vegas even. There’s barely a hint of Kern’s funniest previous acting credit, “Bloodsucking Bastards.”
User ReviewSamantha LJoey Kern's movie left me crying with laughter. This ensemble works so beautifully together on screen that you are convinced they go back for decades as friends. This hidden gem of a movie was that sidewalk film festival in Birmingham, and needless to say I am so glad I added it to my list of must see movies at the festival. Everyone should go see this side-splitting, quirky comedy.
User ReviewPaul BHilarious!!!! I loved it. It was smart, and funny and it had fun surprises. Watch it.
User ReviewLindsayMeadowsJoey Kern really made himself known with this film. It was comedic but with dramatic elements that would pique the interest of lot of different audiences. Not only was it about a bachelor party with the bros gone wrong, it heavily touched on enlightenment and self-discovery that many people would appreciate. I applaud him for being able to incorporate both themes and still be able to create a well-rounded movie. I really love Joey Kern as an actor, director and writer.
User ReviewKayee2017One of the best comedic Indie films that I have seen thus far! Big Bear was a thrill from start to finish and really showed first time directory Joey Kern’s many talents. The fact that he wrote, directed, and starred in the film blew me away because the laughs never stopped coming. My favorite part about the film was the hilarious bond that the friends had, as well as the moments of anguish and self discovery.
User Review3plealxYou can tell there are some experienced people behind this project! The actors do an excellent job entertaining the audience in ways that surprise you and make you laugh for the entire duration of the film. The editor, Franklin Peterson, shows a master craft and domination of his role in the project.
User ReviewMad MBig Bear is a guys movie that girls can enjoy too. You will laugh a lot!
User ReviewAlex%20 AThis movie is awesome because of its experiments with dark themes in comedy. The director, Joey Kern, successfully dared to use strange flashbacks to strengthen the panic attack depictions in ways that look straight from a horror movie. He managed to play a heartbroken man who experienced rage episodes once he learned his fiancée infidelity. As everything went south, his super odd friends tried to make him feel better. On one hand, the performance by Adam Brody is paramount as he plays an essential role to help lead the film into a darker direction, using his recognizable unconventional acting style and does one of the best works in his career. And on the other hand, Tyler Labine and Zachery Knighton both added freshness to the pack, by impersonating a couple of hyped party animals. Each of their characteristics match the film's obscure style and matchless revenge plot. This film made me really feel for Joe, all while laughing along. I can't recommend it enough!
