VarietyBrian LowryThe goose and bears, in particular, don't add much to the proceedings, while Balto himself proves rather blandly heroic.
Spirituality and PracticeFrederic and Mary Ann BrussatAn Alaskan dog who gets a chance to demonstrate his courage and creativity on a mission of mercy.
Empire MagazinePaul MerrillWith no cheesy songs to slow proceedings down and some barnstorming chase sequences, this is enchanting, highly enjoyable and impressively crafted (not least for its adventurous "camera work") and would have made a pretty fair live action film.
Radio TimesDavid ParkinsonKevin Bacon's voice turns the wolf-dog crossbreed into a no-nonsense hero with a sense of duty that far outweighs the pride of his deadly rival, Steele, while Bob Hoskins's eccentric Russian goose provides the comedy.
Common Sense MediaNell MinowBrave dog saves kids in adequate fact-based film.
USA TodaySusan WloszczynaThe love story is pure mush, not helped by the bland voice work done by Kevin Bacon as Balto and Bridget Fonda as dainty husky Jenna.
User ReviewKevin RYeah, I know, this movie has never been popular, but it still has remained one of my favorite movie from childhood and even still now. You can find me occasionally watching this movie, still in awe of it. I'm not eniterely sure why I love this movie so much. I think its because I have always been fascinated by wolves and anything with wolves has interested me. Now that love has morphed into werewolves, but I digress, this movie is still amazing to me. I can't even pick out my favorite moment, simply because I love the movie as a whole. Balto makes my all time list, because, I love it and thats it.
User Reviewheather sI love this movie about the wild animals wolfs.
User ReviewCandace Na wonderful story about a half wolf trying to prove that he's got what it takes like any other dog in Alaska. i love this film and it should be in everyone's collection of videos.
User ReviewDirectors CBalto is a hugely under rated animated film. It was released at the same time as Toy Story and therefore overshadowed. But I preffered this film, I enjoyed it because it was funny and Bob Hoskins shows real enthusiasm to his character of the goose who is Balto's sidekick. Balto is one of the greatest hero's of an animated film and whilst watching you'll care about what he does next. I know you see a lot of animated films with the central character as an outcast but I will say Balto is the best of them all.
