Full Plot Details

There is no way to write a "spoiler"---is there actually somebody somewhere who, ten minutes into this 1950's film, wouldn't know where it is going and will end up---since it is a strictly written-by-the-numbers corruption and redemption meller that finds: number 1, a doctor returns from the Korean War to his Pennsylvania mining hometown, (and 2) must choose between dedicating himself to treating the suffering poor (or 3) build himself a swank office and get rich by flattering wealthy women with imaginary ailments. Throw in elements no. 5,Lizabeth Scott as a rich, spoiled, twice-divorced woman with a lip stiffer than his, and number 6, Dianne Foster as a nurse bent on helping all mankind, and there are no surprises left, especially if one take note of the name of Irving Wallace among the writers, the title and Scott billed above Foster. The only surprise here is that this film wasn't from Universal-International and directed by Douglas Sirk.

User Review - 6/10 by Veronique Kit's among the collection of "bad girls in film noir" but there's nothing too noir about it, just a story of a young talented doctor's struggle between integrity and wealth...and lizabeth scott is surely among the league of wealth, like daisy in the great gatsby...gee, she's surely a honey pie, her voice is so sweet and feminine (also adorable to look at) it's no surprise that the doctor will naturally go for it in the first place. but eventually our man selects the path of integrity after a mouthful taste of the sweet, cutie pie. typical man, i must say..ha. not very noir, i suppose. noir man is the creature of lust hindered by his remains of humanity and eventually the noir man will surrender to his dark side and get a taste of the supreme evil incarnation of the super-cunt(no soft-core honey pie but hard-core spicy meat pie!) and then compulsively perish with it! lol.
User Review - 6/10 by jay nPersonal redemption 50's programmer with Heston temporarily lead astray by rich girl Scott until seeing the error of his ways in an abrupt resolution. Enjoyable if you like the stars with nice work by Foster and particularly Marjorie Rambeau in a small part.
User Review - 6/10 by Greg WSomewhat odd morality tale about how cursed you will be if you decide to make money by being RICH doctor instead of a small town one. Why, you'll mean rich people with rich people illnesses! You should be in the small towns taking care of the small town people who WORK! Charleton Heston, fresh off the army, seems to fall for the first rich girl he sees and dumps the Coalville small down doctors practice job for the chance to work in the big city! But soon, sleazy big people come out and heavens forbids he doesnt care for the small people anymore! Just a wee bit odd, and unbelievable, but watchable anyways.

Everyone wants him to stay, but everyone has their own agenda. Money and power vie with dignity and honor. Heston sells his soul for money and position. But an old army buddy and a nurse who wants to be a doctor may just be able to pull him back from the abyss of upper crust debauchery. HestFactor 8.
