A look at the very real impact the Back to the Future movies have had on our culture. What was once a little idea that spawned a tightly-focused documentary has grown into something truly amazing over two years of filming. Back in Time is a cinematic monument to the vastness of the trilogy's fandom. In addition to the footage and interviews revolving around the time machine itself, the crew found that simply by delving into the impact of the trilogy an epic journey began to unfold before them. The crew captured countless hours of footage during filming. From Steven Spielberg to Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, to the Sheas and Hollers, and from James Tolkan and Lea Thompson to Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox, Back in Time features interview after interview that simply must be seen.

Aisle SeatMike McGranaghanWhile hardly revelatory for diehard fans, there's nonetheless a lot of fun information provided here.
NonficsChristopher CampbellComing out at the same time as Back to the Future Day has only hurt it, making it all the clearer that this scattered fandom doc has nothing special to offer its audience.
User ReviewPatrick K"Back in Time" is a sweet homage to the "Back to the Future" trilogy and to the cool folks who love it. I have a weakness for documentaries about people who devote absurd portions of their time and wealth to the goofy stuff they love. The only downside of this genre is that occasionally the subjects come off as creepy. Not so in "Back in Time." I respected and was delighted by the intense obsessions of these BTTF nuts, and I wouldn't object to a sequel a few years into the ... uh ... future. If you like "Cinemania," "Wordplay," "Word Wars," "Trekkies," "Trekkies 2," and "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" you will surely enjoy spending time with "Back in Time." Ultimately, I was not immune to catching a mild case of this BTTF Fever. Shortly after watching this film, I ordered the Blu-ray "Back to the Future 30th Anniversary Trilogy." So my advice is to set the download speed of your DeLorean cable modem to 88 Mbps and head to the nearest movie streaming site. (And try not to change history too much, ya hear?)

User ReviewJimmy FGreat to watch this on the actual day! Such a shame to see Michael J Fox though, Parkinson's is a terrible disease...
User ReviewPreston LBack in Time is a celebratory documentary of the Back to the Future trilogy. The documentary goes through the making of the movies, the impact they had at that time in society, and the lasting impact it has had to today. The documentary features the cast and creators of the movie, superfans and collectors, and people whose lives were affected by Back to the Future. Things I Liked: Cast and Crew Interviews. The stories of the behind the scenes creation of the movie are really interesting. This movie had a lot of unique moments and speed bumps. The creations stories are all really interesting, and it's clear that the people who worked on this movie are still very passionate about it and enjoy the legacy that it has left on the world. The Imagery. It was also really interesting to see the different props, costumes, and designs that had been used on the movie, and where they are now, many of which are with superfans in some form or another. We got to see replicas of the various DeLoreans and Hoverboards, and all the different parts in between. It was all very fun and interesting to see. Things I Didn't Like: The Subjects. The documentary is a celebration of Back to the Future, yes. But the fact that they only really show the people who spent their life savings to purchase a DeLorean or have a bathroom that is covered in other memorabilia felt a little like they didn't care about the people who celebrate the movie in minimal ways. The only way to celebrate is to go out and purchase every costume, prop, and thing that back to the future touched. Maybe this is a personal gripe but it at times felt like the only real fans were the ones whose lives were changed by the movie completely. Overall: Overall the movie is fun. It's cool to look at the different aspects of the movie, the impact it has had, the way it holds up today, and all other things. It is also fun to see how the movie has impacted the world. The different ways the fans have used the movie to do good things and celebrate various others. There are times where it feels like the only fans are the ones who went crazy with the memorabilia, but in the end this is a small problem. Back in Time is a great look at the way Back to the Future has affected the world.
User ReviewNick PSuch an interesting, entertaining, fun, and reminiscent documentary of one of the greatest trilogies ever.
User ReviewJoshua NA really great exploration of the legacy of Back to the Future and its sequels; I remain flabbergasted at the depth the behind-the-scenes can delve and how much more information continues to come out about the production and the impact this trilogy has had on popular culture and modern culture itself. The film features great retrospective interviews from the main producers and cast, and offers excellent materials from the production up for examination. The other great piece of the film is the final 3rd where we look at the DeLorean restoration project to bring the original car back to a condition suitable after its years sitting in the Universal backlot getting scavenged for parts and gathering rust, and finally putting it on permanent museum display. In addition, the various hoverboard projects that are popular but still not quite what the die-hard fans are looking for; it'll be interesting to see this tech get better and better. Too bad it couldn't be perfect for last year though! All in all, if you're a fan of the original films - no doubt you'll like this peek behind the curtain and look back at how it's aged, oh so, gracefully.
