Set against Iceland's dramatic landscape, Autumn Lights is a story of morality, virtue, and relationships as seen through the eyes of a foreigner in a strange land. The story follows David, an introverted American photographer adrift in remote Iceland while on assignment. When he gets caught in a local investigation after discovering a deserted body washed ashore, David is temporarily bound to a place he doesn't call home and he acquaints himself with the few inhabitants in the area, among them Marie, an Italian woman whose shiftiness betrays not only her beautiful face but her Icelandic husband Jóhann and his own unruffled demeanor. As days pass, David's fascination with the couple intensifies and he slowly begins to find himself entangled in their mysterious lives.

Los Angeles TimesSheri LindenAmerican writer-director Angad Aulakh tries to agitate the pensive set-up with sex and a supposed mystery that never raises the pulse. The Bergman-esque posturing falls so far short of the Swedish master that it wouldn’t even qualify as accidental parody.
Village VoiceBrian WelkAutumn Lights examines love while embracing that philosophy of melancholia, and it manages to do so without plunging into tragedy or melodrama. Like the remote region of Iceland where it’s set, the film offers a quiet, thoughtful escape.
PopMattersKyle AaronsonWhat remains are the bones of a decent genre flick, with the aspirations of a Nicolas Winding Refn film. Perhaps Aulakh will get there one day, but there are several kinks to smooth first.
Slant MagazineCarson LundThe film is like a landlocked Bergman chamber drama divested of any ambivalence regarding human relationships.
Movie NationRoger MooreAutumn Lights has a hint of Ingmar Bergman about it in intent, setting and title (he made “Autumn Sonata”). But in execution, we can’t tell if this was meant to be an homage or a parody.
The Hollywood ReporterJohn DeFore[An] empty ponderousness suffocating the film.
Flick FilosopherMaryAnn JohansonDead and absent women cause a man to have feels, but in an ethereal way, you know, with 'artistic' female nudity and nonsensical pseudophilosophical dialogue.
User Reviewpitt lGreat movie. Loved all the characters, new and old. I recommend to watch it !! I can bet you'll love it just as much as I did.
User Reviewavohappy1Beautiful and moving story about melancholy set in Iceland. It's a story about characters and the dance they move through within their relationships. I enjoyed watching this very much.
User ReviewNick MSaw this film at NY Critics screening before it opened. Beautifully shot. The performances were terrific. The dialogue was also a highlight. Full of life wisdom. I think the melachony nature rubbed some of these critics the wrong way but we enjoyed this film immensely. The director Angad Aulakh and producer and star of the film Guy Kent were present to speak about the film. Was highly insightful. For a first feature film, it's a very impressive movie. I'd recommend this movie for the thinkers.
