Slant Magazine - 10/10 by Dan CallahanThe collision of Aldrich's tough style with the soapy material makes for a film that never loses its queasy tension.
MUBI - 8/10 by Nathanael HoodFor once we see Aldrich look upon a broken world and smile to himself that things could be better.
New Yorker - 7/10 by Richard BrodyIt's a story about mental illness, which is presented with a terrifying frankness as well as a constructive view of psychotherapy at a time when it was often stigmatized.

User Review - 8/10 by Justin IA cautionary tale about falling in love with mental people - which is the story of my life basically. I loved it!
User Review - 8/10 by Michael TKooky melodrama is the ultimate Crawford soap opera.
User Review - 6/10 by James HGood score, typical Joan Crawford movie of the 1950's, perhaps not quite as good as her others in this period. she's appropriately melodramatic. Cliff Robertson just doesn't cut it though, i think he is miscast and over his head in the role. still, good, as is every film Joan Crawford is in.
User Review - 6/10 by Veronique KThis film's plot covers prime Joan Crawford territory. We get to see Crawford in one of her roles of glorious, glamorous suffering. Lonely spinster Milly (Crawford) has given up on love and life until she meets Burt (Cliff Robertson). He's good-looking and much younger. Milly doesn't understand why such a young man would be interested in her. Since she's Crawford, we feel her star quality that her character downplays. Even so Milly soon must confront a worse situation than she feared--her husband's mental collapse. The film feels fairly realistic until it descends into pure, delicious melodrama. Some killer quotes abound. The supporting cast enrich the film and their small roles by their realness. I miss the days when supporting character actors were allowed to seem like real people with unique presences that gave their tiny roles some heft.
User Review - 6/10 by Sausages MDecent melodrama about trust, need and mental stability (or a lack of). It was an ok flick.
