Boston GlobeJanice PageAs flip and gaudy as that title might sound, this spare little movie is actually one of the most candid, down-to-earth, organically inspirational documentaries you'll ever see.
Seattle TimesJeff ShannonIt's an eyes-wide-open account of tenacity and triumph for parents and children alike. Considering the dramatic rise in the number of children born with autism, it's a film that everyone should see and appreciate.
The Tyee (British Columbia)Dorothy WoodendRegan's film tackles the subject of autism in an entirely intimate and personal way, following a group of autistic kids as they write and perform their own musical production.
User ReviewMichael SThis is the best film I've seen at the Vancouver Film Festival this year and one of the most moving documentaries I've seen in some time. The film follows several children with Autism and their families as the children plan and produce a musical for a live audience. It really opened my eyes to these remarkable human beings - both the children and their parents who would move the world for them. Usually a movie that focuses on children with a disease would seem to scare people away from having children but for me, while I hope my children are born free of any medical disorders, it made me yearn one day bringing a life into the world, to watch them grow and help them develop ( I guess I'll have to get on that...) Anyway, while it's sad to see the struggles some people go though, this movie really is a feel-good, inspirational movie about the possibilities out there for autistic children if they have the love and support they deserve.
User ReviewPrivate UI saw the last 45 minutes and it looked pretty cool.
User ReviewOle JI saw a little of Max in every one of them. From the first scene when "Neal" physically takes his mother's face in his hands in order to turn her to face him. A heartwarming movie, very personal to me of course, I was in tears through half of it, because I was watching mothers and children that know what *I* know and only a small percentage of the population "get it" on this deep a level. It would be nice if everyone who knows myself or Max watched this movie. I often realize that unless you have an autistic child, you JUST DON'T GET IT, much less be a single parent of one...or being an autistic person. ...with 1 in 150 children now being diagnosed on the spectrum, I would think being aware and educated on autism would be beneficial to most. More and more people *are* getting "it". or at least a glimpse of "it". Seeing the person not the autism... Movies like this inspire hope for my son's future.
User ReviewKevin MA must see! This is chalked full of rare moments "inside" the mind of a child with autism. If you're an educator, this film should be part of your professional development. Although the documentary derails at times to provide insight into the, well, we'll call it "interesting" parent point of view, this is still an achievement in storytelling and true enlightenment. I cannot express how special some of the moments captured on camera truly are. As well as some special freakish, and at sometimes creepy moments with the parents.
User ReviewKim PThis is a must see for EVERYONE. One of the best documentary films I have ever seen. These children are truly inspiring to watch and learn about. There is hope for these children, bless the parents for being their children's advocate. As a mother with a child who has needs I could relate to the pain and sadness the parents have to face everyday. But I believe all children deserve the best quality of life and these children are no different. They just learn in a different way and we need to value and respect them for who they are.
User ReviewEthan MRepeatedly brought me to tears... not just trickles, but actual uncontrollable sobbing. I'd watch it alone the first time, just in case. :)
