Bonded by their sick love for perversion and brutal depravity, the psychopaths from hell, Peter, and his equally vile girlfriend, Crusty, are still on the hunt for prey, after the shocking events of August Underground's Mordum (2003). As always, slaughter, rape, dismemberment, evisceration, and sexual assault are on the menu, with a touch of murderous jealousy and Yuletide atrocities. Who can offer forgiveness to the penitents?... | User ReviewPhil RThe final film in the trilogy, which a friend of mine was pretty disappointed with (I think you'll change your mind with more viewings!) yet again provides a psychological character study instead of conventional storyline... The film starts of with a lot less gore than the other two, however the last half hour really ups the gore and tension between the two characters... As far as character interaction goes, I might have to say that I think this one is the better of the three, Fred's character who is so clearly inept at showing sympathy for his girlfriend (the scene in the bedroom when she's crying is fantastic) and his girlfriend who slowly loses her will to participate in the killing gradually breakdown into a very tense finish to the film... It's a shame this is the final installment as I really liked the format, but I guess it's all for the best as we get to see how they handle more conventional story led films... I look forward to The Redsin Tower with much anticipation : ) |
User ReviewPrivate ULess gory than Mordum, but much more psychologically harrowing. The surviving killers from Mordum begin their final descent into absolute madness. Fans of the series will definately enjoy this. An excellent finale for the classic underground series.
User ReviewFwah SHorrific end to the AU trilogy. More character development gives this a real movie feel. Still as sick as ever
User ReviewEdward K1 of the best movies ive ever seen a shit ton of blood and guts and the 2 killers were very psychotic
User ReviewLiam JMordum is probably the dirtiest film I have ever seen and with the release of penance I felt this dark seedy side of myself giggle in masochistic joy as I was in for yet another night with my head in the toilet watching some of the fowlest images ever shot. There is one big difference between part 2 and 3 and thats quality, Fred has shot this on Digital rather than the old 8mm(classic) style. I can see why he did this though, in this new age if you found an old vhs quality video of two killers on a spree of terror you would shrug it off and squint at what exactly is going on in the frame. Penance is not the case, you see everything in digital, and you may think, oh, thats nice, but the more detail the worse off the viewer is, and I respect this bold move. Somehow between Mordum and Penance I feel that Vogal has gone a little soft on us, I remember Sitting drunk on the couch with a few friends watching a scene where three women are spewing on eachother and making a man cut his own penis off. We had to turn it off, For the first time since Roald Dalhs Witches I had to turn a film off because it was too much. Where Penance has it's moments like the home intrusion scene on Christmas, it falls short, with everything Mordum had, this lacks, don't get me wrong though, its good pulse racing fun but its just a little dry.
User ReviewEF SVery disturbing. The ending left me with tons of questions.
User ReviewBrian CThe best of the August Underground Trilogy, and the most brutal things ever committed to celluloid. Emotionally jarring if you immerse yourself, boring and cheaply shocking if your and idiot.

User ReviewRichard CThis movie is overshadowed a lot by the first two movies, and I'm not to sure why. There is a lot of gore, torture, disembowelment, children killing, and even a fucking c section! This movie was a bit slower than the first 2, had some scenes that i feel were just put in to fill time to make it feature film length, but all in all, awesome movie, awesome acting, awesome gore. 4/5
