Los Angeles TimesNoel MurrayThere’s nothing especially original about “Assimilate.” But director John Murlowski and a talented young cast — including Joel Courtney, Calum Worthy and Andi Matichak as the plucky high schoolers trying to save their town — do at least keep the action lively and unpretentious.
Movie NationRoger MooreHorror movies succeed or fail in a lot of ways, but the real Achilles heel of too many of them is in front of the camera. The actors don’t commit, don’t get across terror, panic, paranoia or rage. That’s an issue here.
User ReviewmichaelapearlIt is a classic horror sci-fi throwback that leaves much to the imagination. You can take the entire family for a great scare and suspense. If you liked the Invasion of the Body Snatchers you will like this film.

User ReviewFizzywisp54Well it actually wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. It turned out to be pretty good.
User ReviewAmateurfilmVWRSimilar in plot to Body Snatchers, The Faculty and a little bit of The Crazies. However, its performances, cinematography and direction make it likable.
User ReviewJLuis_001It tries but it cannot stop feeling cheap and pointless. And those two elements killed it.
User ReviewJello98Well I signed up for an account just to tell you how bad this movie is... Don't waste your time. Loved the cold staring bit but that's it. The acting mixed in with no story just kills it.
User Reviewnetlord80I watched this movie with the hopes that it would be halfway decent. The majority of what I find on Netflix these days is garbage. I was completely turned off when I saw that this was nothing but a bad remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. That film even has some good remakes, this unfortunately is not one of them. Half of the premise made no sense, they explained way too much, and the acting was only passable. Many times it felt like the directors assumed that the audience couldn't follow along, so they had to explain or show absolutely everything. The characters kept making really dumb decisions throughout the film. We're the only people in town, let's stop for the stop sign. That makes sense. There was also very little emotional weight at any point. One of the main kids watches his mother die right in front of him and aside from a moment right afterwards, it has no further impact on him, it has no lasting impact on him at all. In another scene, a character sees the dead body of her mother and she reacts as though she was upset about some punishment. I'm not sure that it would be fair to blame the actors for the bad performances in this film. A lot of it almost certainly comes down to the writing and directing. To this end, they used the same are they real gimmick at least six different times. And you could drive a Mack truck through some of the plot holes in this thing. I wouldn't waste your time on this turkey. This doesn't fit in to the "so bad it's good" category either. This film is simply bad.
