Chicago ReaderDave KehrA typical puzzlement from Pasolini, a major figure who never made a major film.
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzThough not emotionally involving, it's visually beautiful and the stories have a dazzling magical appeal.
Q Network Film DeskJames Kendrickwhile Arabian Nights has its share of impressive vistas and narrative trickery, its fundamental emotional disconnect renders it inert--a beautiful bit of exotic fantasy that quickly dissipates
User ReviewÉminence GErotic, exotic, explicit, lustful, romantic, taboo, violent, demonic, graphic, fantastic, magical; sex, love, castration, violence, gore, dismemberments, demons, poetry, fire, blood, irresistible cheap visual effects and a lion; extraordinary, visually stunning, Pasolini's fourth best. Orgiastic fusion of styles, a triumph for such a scandalous decade for cinema! 99/100
User ReviewBen DPasolini's anthology of erotic tales gets bad press in some quarters, but I think they're wonderful playful pieces - no more so than in this, the third and final in the sequence. There is much to enjoy here - the cinematography is great, the locations work well, and the whole thing is lush, visual and sensual (if occassionally strange). Good, good fun.
User ReviewSloane RThis is simply the most beautiful film I've ever seen. As, Pasolini was a poet before a film-maker, this, more than any other of his works, displays that to the fullest.
User ReviewAlex BIt begins with the auction of a young female slave, who smartly ridicules her (old) bidders, and then chooses/buys her (young, poor) master. But they get separated when he fails to heed her warning against a blue-eyed man, a Christian....

User Reviewroger tSuch a fascinating film that depicts a world without any sexual prejudices, away from what the consuming habits that reign over the capitalist countries have formed in our minds, as well as many other social tendencies. Pasolini really was against any conventional ideas and was never afraid to tell what he think is wrong with the world. Slowly, Pasolini is becoming one of my favorite directors of all time.
User ReviewYoussef HI think that Pasolini's version is both the most innovative and accurate. It beautifully holds on to the sexual themes in the original old texts, and yet create the ambiance of the dream world that was in Arabian nights. With its brilliant narrative, you may see in it the political satire that Pasolini always loved to give, or the adult fairy tale or any other thing, this film is a must see experience for all film buffs or Arabian nights fans.
