User ReviewRob LLoved the cinematography with the foggy landscapes and silhouette shots, the slow burn, steady tension build, the unflinching depiction of the horror of the situation as it unfolded. The strange pink and peach dresses and bonnets! I will definitely be watching it many times over the years. Truly creepy. It had a very organic flow that just got more intense and shocking to watch as it went along. Some iconic scenes that will stick in your mind, and an ending that will make your jaw drop.
User ReviewLovro HFor a very large portion, this movie is very disturbing, realistic and scary. But, the ending ruins the movie, as it falls into the generic/basic found-footage ending. The movie's story is quite interesting and holds a lot of promise. It reminded me a lot of the Safe Haven short from V/H/S 2. So, two people go to the 'headquarters' of one doomsday cult which believes that the world will end very soon. We are then treated with a few 'normal' days of the cult, but the closer it is to the end, the more we find out about the cult and how messed up it actually is! There are some really frightening scenes in this movie. Most of the creepy scenes are with Michael. Michael is, what his followers believe, God. He leads them. David Macrae did an amazing job with this character. He is very disturbing when on-screen. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the rest of the characters. Most of the cult followers aren't really the best of actors, nor are they as interesting. There are no jump-scares in this movie, it's all just atmosphere and sounds. The movie builds up to something shocking, but really dumb. The ending dissapointed me a lot. I won't spoil it. All in all, a good found-footage horror movie that is actually scary.
User ReviewKevin GThis was an odd one for me. Great trailer for the film but ultimately the rest of it really disappointed me. Decent slow-burn quality and cinematography get lost in the story with very poor explanation. There are many questions left out on a ledge at the end of the film and in other cases that might be a positive thing. Not here unfortunately.
User ReviewHuw GFor a found footage horror film about a cult, a surprising degree of dark and disturbing is achieved, but there's nothing to balance that, and the back story never felt substantial enough to buy into any of the characters. If this is your genre it'll probably be a four star movie, but it's not mine, sorry.
User Reviewsuper cThe movie was an original attempt to give a first person view for a more involved perspective of a journalist falling into a nightmare of filming an occult in the woods. But the movie itself was very low budget, slow and boring with D to C grade acting at best. The plot was just slow and no memorable lines or good in between dialogue all of the scenes in-between the action were awful filler with little importance to the progression of the story. I give it two stars, one star for trying to be original, and one star for .... I honestly cant think of a reason to give it another star. I have to give it one star. This movie wasnt good wondering what they will run into is the only reason i watched it through but the climax of the story was very weak
