| User ReviewBrian RGreat comedy short from L&H, based on a sketch by Stan's dad. If you can get past the slightly creepy opening credits, recited by twin girls (!), it's well worth watching for Stan's drag act as the maid Agnes and the duo's final escape from the police on a tandem dressed as a pantomime horse! And it's got Thelma Todd in it too, who is always a joy to behold. |
| User ReviewWilliam WYou can tell it's not going to be top-flight L&H from the manner in which it packs Finlayson off in a cab in its opening seconds - we have to make do with the visiting Sir Leopold Plumtree, with his ghastly laugh and infinite supply of calling cards - and only with his return, marked by one of the greatest double takes of all time, does the comedy truly perk up: the whole goes somewhere genuinely unexpected in its closing five minutes. Hat damage: Stan falls backwards onto Plumtree's topper. Banana skins: none, although Stan goes over on a loose hall rug, and both he and Ollie have trouble around the mansion's many staircases. By this point, the pair were evidently moving up in the world - even if they remained shaky on their feet. |
