Henri III, King of France, desired the removal of the Duke de Guise, who has been paying marked attention to Henri's sister, Marguerite of France, and so he hires a band of cut-throats to assassinate the Duke in a lonely spot on the road between Paris and Alençon. The King's sister, however, hears of this plot and sends her friend, the Duke de Bussy, to save her lover.
