Daily Film FixJonathan W. Hickman...a diverting, entertaining, and, at times, scary addition to the horror space.
Film ThreatAdam KellerIt’s interesting to watch a movie where some aspects of the production are of such a higher quality than others. The script’s dialogue is wooden, character motivations are often unclear, and it’s hard to infer what we’re supposed to get from some exchanges.... Meanwhile, the acting is all-around excellent.
Film InquiryAlex ArabianAlong Came the Devil balances haunting imagery and genuine scares with a realistic story about family, tragedy, and overcoming loss
Los Angeles TimesNoel MurrayDirector and co-writer Jason DeVan assembled a good cast, and has solidly constructed scare sequences strewn throughout Along Came the Devil. But even at its best, the movie feels stitched together from incomplete, ill-fitting pieces.
VarietyDennis HarveyThe budget may be low, but the level of scares and imagination are lower still in Along Came the Devil, a feeble indie horror film that sometimes seems like a straight retread and other times feels like a movie aimed specifically at Christian audiences.
User ReviewDon't KThis movie had an incredible ending that I did not see coming! I loved everything about it. Can't wait for part two.
User ReviewRB SA familiar storyline with an ending you won't see coming If you are a fan of possession films, this is a promising good-looking indie film within the horror genre. But, the reviews both good and bad are exactly why I want to watch movies in the first place. Most everyone compares films from the storyline down to the budget. Granted this is very a familiar storyline, but this first-time filmmaker shows how to make a decent movie with a small budget. It's well lit, with some great scenes that stand out, particularly the time lapse overnight to the morning! The camera work is solid and it doesn't have many fixed position shots, which keeps it easy to watch and fluid. The film also uses quite a bit of traditional special effects, like broken bones and the evil one himself, which are an added bonus. Not to worry there is a touch of CGI to bring things alive as well. They assembled a solid quality cast with Sydney Sweeney leading the way. She is fully invested in her character Ashley and plays the possession scenes perfectly! Madison Lintz, Jessica Barth, Matt Dallas, and Bruce Davison all bring solid performances. The ending is like nothing I've ever seen in this type of movie and it's the needed twist to set this indie horror film apart. Watch and enjoy.
