User ReviewRobert IMy new favorite movie. Every detail contributes beautifully to the whole to build a complete, well thought-out world. I really have nothing but praise. Alleluia!
User ReviewKevin PThis movie was truly spectacular. While expectations are generally that you've seen Repo the Genetic Opera or the first episode of The Devil's Carnival, this movie is for fans of horror, musicals, and all things weird! Think along the lines of Rocky Horror. The film was well-paced, and the film offered a much richer story without alienating the formula that the first film had. You will fall in love with the characters and the songs. Terrance and Saar's devotion to their world and the sounds within it really make the music a standout. The songs sound so authentic! I was leaning on the edge of my seat, watching in awe, and tapping my feet to the songs. I laughed, I nearly cried, it was a wonderful ride that only a carnival can give. Truly something special that the adventurous should look into. But the question is, are you a Heavenly saint, or a Hell-bound sinner?
User ReviewHeather BA brilliant continuation of the first movie; Terrance did an amazing job giving both a backstory/prequel to what we were given the first time, AND a thrilling, if unexpected, sequel. The plots, acting, costumes, and especially the music and lyrics- are surprisingly daring. I had a bit of trouble understanding and following what was happening in the first episode- a critique I shared with a lot of other fans. I love that Terrance tries to force the audience to be active, to think about what's going on besides just what is on the screen, to be inductive and involved. But even so, some of the plot points were a bit obscure. My biggest concerns for Alleluia, was if it would follow the same format, and if it would be able to bridge the gap between the two worlds. I was so incredibly relieved when it was obvious that this movie wouldn't be a game of guessing and conjecture (not that it's not fun...). Even though the audience got a slight reprieve here, by no means is this second installment a movie for passive viewers. There is still so much left to ponder, answers to seek, and theories to create.
User ReviewKimmie YAnother fun and wild ride! Paul Sorvino playing the Almighty God and Terrance Zdunich playing Lucifer. The prequel to The Devils Carnival, it takes you back and gives you some back story to a few characters. Don't want to spoil the fun! GO SEE IT! It is starting the road tour next week. You can purchase tickets online from the website.
User ReviewGimly MI liked the expanding of the world of The Devil's Carnival, and I liked the portrayal of Heaven as being like golden age Hollywood (pretty from a distance, but tainted when you look closer), but overall I think Devil's Carnival worked better as a short rather than a feature. It kind of starts to overstay its welcome, and Heaven isn't as much fun as Hell was (also Hell had better songs). Still, if you're a fan of Devil's Carnival, you'll probably enjoy this entry since it has a lot more of what you love. The sets are gorgeous making full use of their miniscule budget, the performances are great, the songs are catchy, and the themes are interesting. The extended runtime does also manage to give more time for character development, so it ends up being a bit deeper in that regard than the original. Overall I definitely like the first one more, but this is still a welcome entry in the saga. And with that painful cliffhanger ending, I can't wait to see what comes next.
User ReviewAndrew M"Always Alleluia" We return to the Carnival for the second episode of Darren Lynn Bousman and Terrance Zdunich's macabre musical movies. This time, it's feature length and we get a peak behind the curtain at the inner workings of Heavenly Productions Inc. (Heaven) where things aren't exactly Holy.. Meanwhile, back down below, Lucifer and the carnies prepare for war, and we learn a little about one Carnie in particular, and how her fall set the stage for what's coming. The first part of the series, The Devil's Carnival, was a fun albeit short piece of film that you knew had potential though they rushed to fit it all in 50 minutes.. Here, they have more then enough time and they really do set up the two sides of the conflict pretty well... Honestly my only complaint is the songs are hit or miss just like the first one, but at least this one has more plot to chew on so the songs aren't carrying the entire weight of the film... Honestly, I'm looking forward to what comes next, and seeing if Lucifer, the Ticket-Keeper, The Painted Doll and all the rest manage to take down God and his lapdogs (seeing as I'm assuming episode 3 will be the war)... Hopefully we don't have to wait as long this time round.
