Full Plot Details

Colonel Ryder, the publisher of a magazine, dies while on vacation. Tony, his swinging nephew, inherits the magazine and takes over. Presently, the magazine is planning to expand and to do so they need some capital. Tony's trying to arrange a loan through his friend. He is then informed by the hotel detective of the hotel that his uncle died in, that on the night of his death, a woman, wearing only a towel, came out of his room, and ran away before the detective could catch up with her. They suspect that the Colonel was "with" her on the night he died, cause he was smiling when he died. Tony and two of his uncle's confidants are worried that not only if the bank hears of this they will not get the loan but the magazine wholesome image could be tarnished. So they ask the detective to stay around so he could identify her. What they don't know is that the woman is Katie Robbins, one of the magazine's researchers and that she entered the room by "accident". When the detective identifies her and after having a few misconceived conversations with her, they suspect that she is trying to extort them, and she thinks that Tony's a nut.

User Review - 6/10 by Dean MThis comedy starts well but lags before the finals. It was and still remains a very funny film with Dean Martin and Shirley MacLaine giving some good performances. One thing does puzzle me. After Jack Weston as house detective removes the towel through the elevator door. Just how does a nude MacLaine get back to her room?

User Review - 6/10 by Reginald RI don't know. Sam Peckinpah's Cross of Iron has an original and mesmerizing style. James Coburn is sergeant Steiner, a man with a love/hate relationship with his life on the Russian-German front circa 1944. It's a very good film, that's all I know. Douglas Sirk's A Time to Love and a Time to Die is about a german soldier coming home on a three week leave from the aforementioned Russian-German front. Only, the vacation is no picnic either. Frankly, they're bombing the shit out of Berlin, and it's not nice for anybody. The guy is looking for his parents, but finds a girl instead. Generally great stuff. All in a Night's Work is a fun movie. Shirley MacLaine is really cute and Dean Martin is better than usual(obviously usually he sucks). Good film, just not anything too profound. Miffo, from Sweden. Is about a young priest called Tobias(curiously looking like a greatly upgrated version of Toby Maguire) who is trying to get his life in order. Struggling for independence from his wealthy parents and high-class background, struggling with his ambitions to do good in his profession, and generally struggling in his messy personal life, he meets a girl in a wheelchair, who is of the lower uneducated classes and looking like a polish hooker, so naturally there's immediate attraction. For some odd reason the film occationally threatens to suffocate itself with stupid Hollywood cliches, but luckily director Daniel Lind Lagerlöf has enough style and grace to steer through the sometimes a bit too conventional plot succesfully. Some delicious scenes. A smart small film that yet doesn't want to stray far from the mainstream. Insomnia is a good solid mediocre thriller from the Memento guy.
