The CGI or computer animated drama/documentary takes place on Darwin IV, a planet 6.5 light years from earth, with 2 suns and 60% of Earth's gravity. Having identified Darwin as a world that could support life, Earth sends a pilot mission consisting of the Mothership Von Braun and three probes: Balboa, Da Vinci, and Newton. This robotic fleet is responsible for finding and assessing any life forms on Darwin IV. Initially, the expectation is to find microscopic life, but the probes soon find themselves in the middle of a developed ecosystem teeming with diversity of life of all sizes. The drama on Darwin IV is motivated by real science missions, such as the NASA Origins Program and the NASA / JPL Planet-Finder Mission, as well as the European Space Agency's Darwin Project. "Alien Planet " is a cosmic expedition along side Stephen Hawking, Michio Kaku, Jack Horner, Craig Venter, and George Lucas, and NASA's Chief Scientist Jim Garvin. No longer just the domain of science fiction, "Alien Planet" dramatizes an exciting and possible answer to what alien life really looks like and when we'll find it.

DVDTalk.comScott WeinbergA "What If?" peek at the beasts that might live on a planet six light-years away, Alien Planet is more than cool enough to keep the sci-fi geeks (like me) entertained.
User ReviewMel VWayne Douglas Barlowe is a freaking genius. Avatar fans (and James Cameron), you should humbly tip your hats to this man, because your precious Banshees and Leonopteryxes and Thanators wouldn't exist without his art direction. Nobody makes better aliens. Nobody. (But Nemo Ramjet comes pretty close.) Anyway, this is a sublime imagining of his surreal alien world. It's strange and beautiful.
User ReviewIan PHopefully this will be a vanguard for similiar movies. I was entertained throughout and applauded the various life forms and their niches on the Alien Planet.
User ReviewGuess PI absolutely love this documentary! Maybe one day this planet will be "home". Maybe. . .
User ReviewTheo GAn awesome movie on dozens of different aliens different sizes and shapes, and all equally awesome!
User ReviewJohn Tit was probrably the best documentry i ever saw. The CG was pretty sketchy but still, it was like an educational story. none of the bits were too long or too short.
User ReviewMel ZA great CGI on how an alien planet and its habitants could look like.
User ReviewNader OThe most enjoyable Sci-fi documentary... Don't look for any Earth-shaking conclusions. Just enjoy the ride.
User ReviewShawn SA very interesting look at the possibility of life on other planets.
User ReviewHeather HAn excellent "what if" documentary that explores the possibility of life existing on another planet and how we would study that life. The planet and it's alien inhabitants are some of the most original and intimidating. The alien creatures are explained to the viewer based on what we would know about them from observation of the probes footage, leaving the viewer with many unanswered questions about the strange beings. While its starts out intriguing its easy to start to loose interest once you near the end. It starts to feel as though they just want to cram in a bunch of monsters and with the probes nearing the end its starts to feel like we've seen all the life this alien planet will offer or care to see.
