Full Plot Details

In 1947, in New Mexico, a radio operator receives a signal following regular patterns. While investigating the occurrence, he vanishes. In the present day, the same signal is transmitted from a base in the Falkland Islands to United States of America and a satellite captures images of a unknown object in Antartic. The cryptologist Julien Rome (James Spader) is invited to investigate the mystery in the South Pole and he flies to a research base. While a team tries to open a weird shell probably from the outer space, Julien solves the message, which proves to be a distress signal ordering not to open the case.

User Review - 6/10 by Master Xi-Ying WActually, this "made-for-TV event" wasn't all that bad. I know it's a ripoff of a bunch of other more famous movies, but it was tolerable. The only things that bugged me where 1) the predictable ending, 2) the over-the-top behaviour of the Main Antagonist character (was it bad acting on the part of John Lynch, poor script writing, poor directing, or all three?), which was just too hard for audiences to find "believable," and my personal favourite 3) the cliche where the tough Black guy always takes a bullet for the team (gets killed) in the end. For some reason, I found myself rooting for the Russians more than any of the other characters. At least the Captain played his part with a little depth. It seems like everyone else was there for the paycheck. This flick could have been WAY better.

User Review - 6/10 by Joel BI hated that they had to kill the alien (just shows how humans are so reckless about anything, and that they make horrible judges when it comnes to other species). I kind of like the ending though.
User Review - 6/10 by Tobias LQuite a good movie, with bits pinched from "The Thing" and "Alien". The story line is fairly predictable, except for one part I'm not clear on. A man, infected with a deadly (?) virus is trying to escape. He is trying to rach the outside of a research station during the Antarctic winter dressed in ordinary clothes. Er......he would have frozen solid in a very short time. Even if he hadn't, the Russian atomic warhead which was on its way would have crisped him up (just as it vapourised him). The people trying to stop him escaping were aware of the imminent arrival of their demise, but they still tried to stop him. Goodness knows.

User Review - 6/10 by Alex BNothing spectacular here, but it's solid enough to have kept me entertained for 90mins. Mix Alien with The Thing and throw in James Spader, plus some pretty fucking cool special effects on the alien ship at the end, and you get this adequate Sci-Fi Channel original.
