Peter Sellers plays Aldo Vanucci (aka the Fox), one of the greatest criminals of the world and master of disguise. From Sellers as the great Aldo Vanucci, thief extraordinaire, to Victor Mature as a wonderful parody of his own screen persona, to the hilarious music of Burt Bacharach, to the surprisingly deft direction by the legendary Vittorio De Sica, this is a near perfect film for me. So many funny lines from the great Neil Simon ("More sand in the desert!), and ad libs from Sellers. Oh, did I mention that the poster art is by Frank Frazetta? Did I mention the Hollies? God Bless 'em all. I still love AFTER THE FOX. |

Directed by one of the founders of Italian neo-realism, Vittorio De Sica, who was no stranger to comedy, but â??Foxâ?? was an unusual melding of Italian and Hollywood comedy featuring a US/UK cast with Italian supporting actors. Peter Sellers is terrific as Aldo Vanucci, a criminal mastermind known as The Fox; Brit Ekland is his sister, Gina Vanucci, the aspiring starlet; Martin Balsam plays it straight as Harry, the agent for an aging Hollywood star in a tour de force performance by Victor Mature who steals every scene heâ??s in as Tony Powell. Akim Tamiroff is Okra who partners with The Fox to smuggle the gold and the strikingly beautiful Maria Grazia Buccella plays Okraâ??s assistant. The movie features a snappy and groovy score by the great Burt Bacharach and the screenplay was written by Neil Simon and I can only imagine what the Italian set was like on this movie. It would be interesting if the movie was released featuring the Italian sound track which featured its own unique score and the Italian dialog for the supporting cast. The movie is hard to categorize or describe, but it is essentially a heist film comedy. Sellersâ?? gets to try several funny accents, but mostly plays it straight. While the movie is over-the-top, itâ??s mostly because we the viewer are in on the joke. The ending is one of the most bizarre endings of any movie ever made and as a kid it made for much discussion among my friends. This movie is not to be missed and I try to watch it at least once or twice a yearâ?¦ |

| User ReviewRafiq UThe best film I've seen with Peter Sellers, it's just so funny and ridiculous that it's impossible to resist! Also the directing by Vittorio De Sica is superb, the story itself is also superb and it's paced really well so you never get bored during any scene. Peter Sellers' acting is also just ingenious and perfect, as an Italian master criminal. The great references to the film industry during that time are classic as well and just brings in more laughs. |

| User ReviewMervyn GI think all those who wrote their review of this movie had a valid point. Yet my point is this, this movie did show the comic genius of Peter Sellers. For who could play this part better? AHH NO ONE! If you catch his flow and smoothness from one scene into the next you may very well see how great this movie is. This is by the way one of my favorites. I have never had a favorite movie before. I truly enjoy this movie and since mine is scratched I am going to buy a new one. Hope it is in blue ray discs. |
