EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyThough not as exciting as Robin Hood and other Flynn swashbuckling adventures, Vincent Sherman's version still boasts high production values, particularly lush cinematography and art direction, stirring Max Steiner score, and good stuntwork.
User ReviewPaul FAn incredible performance by the greatest swashbuckling hero of all time.
User ReviewAaron SThe last swashbuckler film of Errol Flynn's, but a great movie nonetheless.
User ReviewStan DStarring the great Errol Flynn (who else?), with his usual sidekick, Alan Hale, and Vivica Lindfors. A clever, witty, entertaining drama in which Flynn saves the queen from an evil would-be usurper. At the end of the movie, his latest very young real life lover has a cameo, and then comes the great ending line.
User ReviewJo YBrilliant Steiner score and funny plot with exciting action and an awesome set!
User ReviewIan CNot one of Flynn's best, and there are certainly better swashbucklers out there, but I still like this one a lot - I always have since I was a kid. In this formulaic swashbuckler, Flynn plays ultimate womanizer Don Juan de Marana, a role he probably should have taken a little sooner in life before alcohol and hard living took its toll on him, but I can't see anyone else in the role. Spectacular sets, well-played stock characters, and plenty of swordfights throughout the film - and lots of lovely women for Flynn to cavort with. There's better out there, but that doesn't mean this one still isn't good.
User ReviewEliza DDefinitely a case of art-imitating life. This was the perfect role for Errol Flynn and he played it brilliantly. I love all of the movies he did with Alan Hale and this one is no exception.
User ReviewCharlotte LAmazing sword fight at the end. Only "Don Juan de Marana" can yell,"The sword is not for a traitor (throw sword away). You'll die by the knife!" and then jump down over twenty stair-steps to knock down his opponent and stab him in the chest. Go Errol Flynn!
User ReviewPrivate UThis movie has the sense to make fun of itself. And what fun.
User ReviewDylan WAnother perfect Errol Flynn movie. It is weird to like him and his movies so much, for me at least, because he is such a creepy guy. But, I have to admit after about ten minutes he had me swooning. Such a great and smooth story. It reads wonderfully and is as smooth as butter.
