Chicago TribuneDave KehrWeathers turns out to be a disappointingly weak lead whose low-key likability doesn't make up for his lack of anger and drive-crucial attributes for any action hero. And Baxley is surprisingly stingy with his action sequences.
The Globe and Mail (Toronto)John AllemangSometime stunt co-ordinator Baxley directs this feebly-scripted, sporadically exciting crime pic like a showpiece for his former speciality.

Los Angeles TimesMichael WilmingtonAction Jackson is a movie where some of the parts are good, but none of them fit and a lot of them stink. The movie tries for so many different effects in the course of its endless 94 minutes that I walked out feeling dizzy.
eFilmCritic.comScott WeinbergMindless 80's action schlock. Fun only if you already know it's junk, but dig it anyway.
User ReviewBen RThis 1988 action movie is a classic! You had a lot of stars in this movie! You had Carl Weathers, Vanity, Sharon Stone, Bill Duke, Al Leong, Craig T. Nelson, Miguel A. Núñez Jr., Sonny Landham, Charles Meshack, Brian Libby(from the movie Silent Rage starring Chuck Norris as the unstoppable silent killer).
User ReviewNicky NCarl Weathers, Sharon Stone and Craig T. Nelson star in this action and comedy spectacular. Carl Weathers plays Sgt. Jericho Jackson or what people like to call him "action Jackson" who is a tough detroit cop who going after auto tycoon Peter Tellaplane who is scheming to murder his way into politics. I always liked Carl Weathers and to see him in a action and comedy movie of this caliber is totally fun. With a mixture of witty humor and alot of great action this movie is plenty enjoyable. Great job by the entire cast for making this movie so entertaining. Pretty much most of the cast lend a hand in making the movie humorous. There seemed to be Plenty of one liners to go around. If it's a movie with great humor and action then Action Jackson is your cup of tea.
User ReviewD MEasily one of the best action films of the 80s. Legendary actor Carl Weathers stars as Jericho "Action" Jackson, a cop who is investigating a corrupt Detroit industrialist when Sharon Stone shows up and Vanity sings a song or two. Like scenes involving testicles in jars with a strong Jesus message? This film is the one you're looking for!
