User Review - 10/10 by Chase JAlison Steadman is divine as Beverly, the diabolical party host who overserves her guests liquor and blatantly hits on one of her guests husband while bossing her own husband around like a servant. This is like a British version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? except more devastating. This is really hard to find, but I have a copy. It absolutely reaks of the 70's. I love the opening scene where Beverly is making her self a drink to Donna Summers 'Love to Love You, Baby'.
User Review - 10/10 by Ed FâLaurence. Angela likes Demis Roussos. Tony likes Demis Roussos. I like Demis Roussos. Sue would like to hear Demis Roussos. So please, do you think we can have Demis Roussos? â?
User Review - 10/10 by Graham KThe Wings of Love versus Light Classical: culture wars invade suburban Essex.
User Review - 10/10 by Alex FMade for TV play. Simple, nothing but a living room and 4 excellent actors. The beauty of low budget with lots of talent. Mike Leigh is a genious.
User Review - 10/10 by David SA very original Mike Leigh directed TV drama adapted from his play. Although it's dated the characters here are terrific - especially Alison Steadman's maneating Beverly, who hosts a get together with her neighbours. What follows is fun and very tragic. A great watch.
User Review - 10/10 by Liam PAbsolutely epic. It's majorly dated now but still terrific, and Alison Steadman is fantastic - a career defining role, and a career defining piece for Leigh too. The characters are wonderful. It's a big shame TV never produces gems like this anymore.
User Review - 10/10 by Oreste MI just find it hilarious in it's idiocy....the get together for hell...the Duvitski woamn is just amazing...
User Review - 10/10 by Tom SWatched the other day...My God it's more horrific and excruciating than I remembered!....it really is savage in places. Once you start watching you can't tear yourself away and have to see it out to the bitter end, keeps you on edge the whole time like watching someone else's nightmare but also very funny in places. The characters are brilliant especially Beverley, the ultimate control freak and the monosyllabic Tony. Twisted in so many ways....
User Review - 10/10 by Mick HTheree really is nothing to say about this play for today production, other than it is wonderful. The first time I watched this was from behind the safety of a cushion - it really does make you cringe THAT much.
User Review - 10/10 by Benjamin OI can't really add anything to what has been said already by anyone that's seen it. It's just perfect. Which is why we're still talking about this play 36 years later. If you haven't watched it, you really should.
