IndieWireKate ErblandIts low-key religious underpinnings — truly, no one even hauls out a Bible during the entire film — likely won’t rankle the secular set, even as Christian kids will be happy to see their worldview reflected by way of a mild crowd-pleaser. It’s hammy, it’s predictable, it’s a little silly, but what YA musical isn’t?
Chicago TribuneMichael PhillipsThe cast generates the goodwill. Madison and Quinn bring heart and some shrewd dramatic instincts, while Cook and Sterling settle comfortably into a sincere comic key.
Movie NationRoger MooreThe kids do what kids do in such syrupy summer camp (PG) romances. There’s a little melodrama, tears, a crisis of faith. At least the adults take a shot at bringing the funny.
RogerEbert.comMatt Zoller SeitzThis isn't an unwatchable movie, just an underachieving and forgettable one, and somehow that's more irritating than a disastrous swing for the fences would've been.
VarietyGuy LodgeIf anything, the film’s cross-pollination with faith-based cinema is detrimental to its already minimal tension.
The New York TimesAmy NicholsonThis is a film as tidy, transparent and kid-friendly as a square of Jell-O salad, and so squishily eager-to-please that it doesn’t engage with its religious themes so much as tuck them into song lyrics to hover in the narrative like grapes.
The GuardianAdrian HortonThe low stakes of the camp drama and the soundtrack’s indistinguishably familiar pop (adaptations of contemporary Christian hits, plus four original songs) aim for easy, catchy, comfortable fun – a breezy intention which casts some of the script’s insensitive moments in even harsher light.
User ReviewWhiteMama9A wonderful movie, encouraging values of family and faith. With kids ranging in age from 2-23, it was refreshing to find a movie we could all watch and enjoy together. It was so well done. The music was even catchy. The older Christian songs intertwined brought back memories for my husband and me. Even our 6 and 8 year old sons have wanted to watch it again and again, as well as our 15 and 21 year old daughters. I think we all had smiles on our faces as we watched. I even caught my 17 year old son chuckling and smiling throughout the movie.
User ReviewbecadinizzPeople are so critical but not all the movies need a plot twist or even a huge script. This movie is fun and great for you watch with family it teaches us a great way to see life, ups and downs. The songs are fun and have a good vibe i would say it’s a new version of Camp Rock.
User ReviewGlassbreakerThe songs capture an entire genre of music.
