After being told by her father to never return home Mayuko takes drastic measures to reconnect with her diseased grandfather in the after world with hope he will guide her spirit home. As she drifts asleep she is awakened by Galopin the Great, a man who hears voices in his head and thinks he is the world's greatest pantomime. He visits the peep show regularly to perform for one of the girls Ruby who reminds him of his long lost daughter that he lost years earlier. He mistakes Mayuko for Ruby and after seeing her dire circumstances offers to help her get out of the peep show and Mayuko seeing his suffering and kindness chooses life over death.
