Village VoiceDiana ClarkeWhat Yeger stirs up is profoundly unsettling and deeply moving.
Playback:stlSarah BoslaughFor a subject so potentially fraught with emotion, A People Uncounted is a surprisingly calm film...
New York TimesAndy WebsterMuch of this movie is composed of survivors who give harrowing accounts of their experiences, and their warnings about rising ethnic hatred in Europe should not be ignored. But those seeking to learn in depth about, say, the dialects and traditions of the Roma should look elsewhere.
User ReviewKATRINKA SMy knowledge of the Roma, or Gypsies as I knew them until I heard the word Roma before my first trip to Europe, was limited. The documentary A People Uncounted is an excellent primer on Roma history and culture, way back to their origins in northern India. Many Great Courses classes, free at your public library, have also helped me build my knowledge base. People all over the world have many similarities, urban & rural, rich & poor, all religions, hues, cultures and traditions. The more we know, the more peace we'll have. I highly recommend this intriguing, true-to-life film. I guarantee you'll learn things you didn't know :)
User ReviewArt LNobody learn no nothing from no history. Very well-made and sobering documentary about the suffering of the Roma (gypsy) people.
User ReviewZelyaine TAlthough the film was a bit scattered (there's a lot of territory to cover), I was shocked at how much of this information I didn't know. Well done Aaron Yeger for attempting to boil decades of horrible persecution into less than 2 hours.
