A young, impetuous geologist named Andrzej is convinced he will find needed oil in the hole he is drilling. But as time goes by, there is an interference from the home office, and he runs into problems with bureaucracy. He realizes he is just doing his work and that others do not share his zeal. He meets an older more resigned man who helps him conduct an unofficial drilling. The oil is finally found.... (Full plot summary below)
