User ReviewOllie WAn incredible, hilarious, disturbing documentary that beneath it's shiny exterior of dancing detectives and the relentless community spirit of the central focus; the enigmatic and endearingly naive enthusiasm of positive family Rajesh, lies a poignant message of futility and greed in India's flawed and unreliable justice system.
User ReviewRoss LWhat a great movie to show the many faces of Kalkuta. From the crime ridden streets in need of a true hero, to the fanciful dance shows that fill the dreams of many Indians, there is only one man that can guide us though both with honesty and sincerity. This movie was fascinating and heart wrenching and it is all because of Rajesh Ji, the Bengali Detective. Loved it. 2011 Movies: 8
User ReviewAlexander RThis documentary follows the life of a private detective Rajesh Ji, joining him on several adventures. It wasn't clear to me watching the film as to what the subject matter really was. Is Rajesh Ji a villian, a saint, or just the inevitable result of the poor conditions in India? Is this a documentary about detectives, India's judicial system, or one person? It seems as if the director wasn't sure himself, lost control of the subject matter he was trying to capture and ended up editing a bunch of unrelated topics together. Overall, the film is only held together by the sheer force of Rajesh Ji's personality, which would be just as bizarrely interesting no matter the locale.
User ReviewBrian FAn interesting blend of intimate family doc, crime investigation and also the incorporation of Bollywood themed dancing makes this entry a little different in a good way since it avoids general categorization. Rajesh is definitely inspiring in terms of how he keeps his mens spirits up as they try to solve various murder, corruption, and adultry cases by taking his men to dance classes to bond and rejuvenate their souls after a long days work. The message makes the film really ring true although with how jolly and catching the music is makes the more serious a tad too light to make the lifting moments hit the way thy should. Enoyable light.
User ReviewKristal CA really delightful and strange documentary that manages to combine fly-on-the-wall filmmaking with that feeling of "this is not quite real" as in when you're watching an episode of The Hills.
