Movie Reviews

Los Angeles Times - 8/10 by Gary GoldsteinAlthough stylish and intriguingly told, the twisty crime drama "7 Minutes" never quite jumps out of the pack.
NOW Toronto - 7/10 by Norman WilnerAll the chronological hopscotch can't paper over the fact that Martin just doesn't have that much of a story to tell.
Paste Magazine - 6/10 by Melissa Weller7 Minutes is a slick ride through a sexy cultural wasteland, but before the credits roll you know it won't cross your mind again.
The Dissolve - 5/10 by Chris KlimekIt’s handsomely shot and reasonably well-acted, and it’ll likely get Martin better gigs as a director, if not a screenwriter.
New York Daily News - 4/10 by Katherine PushkarWell, that was the longest seven minutes of my life. An uninspired tale of a small-town robbery gone wrong, 7 Minutes abounds in clichés.
The Stranger (Seattle, WA) - 3/10 by Charles Mudede7 Minutes is the movie that gets that city right. The ugliness of its downtown, the blandness of its raised freeways, and the abruptness of its transitions from rural to urban and urban to rural.
National Post - 3/10 by David BerryThere isn't a character here... who doesn't feel like a low-res scan of a shaky photocopy of a faded polaroid of a character in a better crime drama, none of which is helped by a plot that's too simple to generate tension even from its narrative tricks.
New York Observer - 3/10 by Rex ReedLike most of today's young directors who neither want to nor know how to tell an actual story in a traditional way with a beginning, middle and end, writer-director Jay Martin jumps around like a spastic colon.
Slant Magazine - 0/10 by Clayton DillardWhether because of race, shame, shelter, or fright, 7 Minutes remains white in the face throughout.
User Review - 10/10 by Darren BIt's hard to find the words, but "7 Minutes" has this kind of...essence. The fast-paced action of the heist combined with a certain kind of quiet--captured with beautiful cinematography-- makes the atmosphere of this movie more than unique; it makes it. a kind of fascinating. It's the kind of movie I immediately want to see (and will) a second time to savor its almost otherworldly atmosphere even more now that I've discovered it in the first reviewing. The characters are so rich, so subtle yet intense, I can imagine them as characters in a short story. This movie is really unique in a thought-provoking, intriguing and entertaining way. This is true arthouse cinema. Really cool movie.
