Boston GlobeJay CarrA lively, good-looking kiddie action comedy best left to those under 10. Although their attention may wander, parents can be grateful that there's some substance as well as fun in this Disney release, for martial arts is presented as a matter of defense rather than aggression, emphasizing that it is a matter of mind and spirit as well as body and requiring resourcefulness and discipline.
Philadelphia Daily NewsMary FlanneryYou'll love this movie, if you're a 10-year-old boy. Or 8 years old. Or even 13.
Cinema CrazedFelix Vasquez Jr.For the most part it works well as a movie that is funny, fun, and fairly painless.
Miami HeraldRene RodriguezBrazenly exploitative stuff, stirring in anything which has done the business in kids' movies previously, this, of course, should have its target audience laughing like drains.
Time Out LondonNigel KendallCan the trio use their ninja secrets to escape? Will granddad defeat the gun-runner in hand-to-hand combat? If you can't guess the answers to these questions you are under 11 and will absolutely love this film, with its amazing fight scenes, bungling Home Alone kidnappers and thoroughly nasty bad guys. Send mum and dad shopping.

Radio TimesDavid ParkinsonIt's just a pity that the three martial arts kids are so charmless.
WJFK-FM (CBS Radio)Kevin McCarthyIf you are under the age of ten, this movie was made for you.
Deseret News (Salt Lake City)Chris HicksFor me, 3 Ninjas had its amusing moments but was also tedious at times.
The New York TimesStephen HoldenThe film can't seem to make up its mind whether it wants to be a comedy, a fantasy or an adventure film. Mr. Kingsley's villain gnashes his teeth and snorts, I love being the bad guy. Those who displease him are threatened with the tearing out of a heart or liver. The character ends up being neither scary nor funny, while the boys are so busy demonstrating their superhuman skills that no personalities emerge.
