Juan Padrón was born in 1947 in Matanzas, Cuba. Juan Padrón (n. Matanzas on January 29, 1947) is a cartoonist, filmmaker, cartoon, illustrator, cartoonist, screenwriter, and director of cuban cinema, is a graduate of Bachelor's degree in Art History at the University of Havana. His early work drawing appeared in the magazine Mella and later in The Sword, a supplement of the magazine Juventud Rebelde. Elpidio Valdés, his most famous character, appears for the first time in the magazine's Pioneering in 1970. In 1974, he begins his work as a director of cartoons on Cuban Institute of Art and Industry of Cinema, from where it took its characters to the cinema. He made his first feature film in 1979, Elpidio Valdés (feature film), and the second, Vampires in Havana, 1985. In addition to the movie Elpidio Valdés, he is also the creator of the cartoon series “Filminuto”, which appeared for the first time in 1980. From 1986, he worked in collaboration with Quino to create another series called “Quinoscopio". He is currently a board member of the UNEAC. Among the many recognitions and awards that Juan Padrón has received for his work, including the medal Alejo Carpentier in 1988, the annual Award for journalism " Juan Gualberto Gómez in 1989, the order of Juan Marinello in 1999, the Félix Varela order in 2001, the National Prize for the sense of Humor of Cuba in 2004, the National Prize of Cinema of Cuba in 2008, in addition to the prize, the Diablo Cojuelo and eight Coral Awards of the International Festival of New Latin american Cinema.
