Eric Ruf was born in 1969 in Belfort, Territoire de Belfort, France. After completing his diploma of end of studies in musical practice at the Conservatoire de Belfort, he joined the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d'art in 1987, before continuing his studies in the classes byjean-Pierre Garnier, Maurice Attias and Josephine Derenne at the cours Florent from 1989 to 1992. He later attended the classes of Catherine Hiegel and Madeleine Marion at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique from 1992 to 1994. He became a boarder at the Comédie-Française in 1993, even before the end of his studies at the Conservatory. Since 1998 he is a member of the Comédie-Française, and was one of the six members members of the board of directors from 2004 to 2006. In the theatre, he has played at the Comédie-Française, Dom Juan, Amphitryon, Ruy Blas, in The Miser, of The exchange to Lucrezia Borgia, under the direction of Jacques Lassalle, Anatoli Vassiliev, Andrzej Seweryn. In July 2014, he succeeded to Muriel Mayette-Holtz to the position of general administrator of the Comédie-Française.
