Nidal Al Achkar is a lebanese artist who played a key role in the development of the theatrical movement and the general culture in Lebanon and in the arab world. Actress and director, Nidal graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts" in London. His encounter with Joan Littlewood, director, humanist, writer and founder of the "Theater Workshop", is essential in his career. In 1966, she founded with a group of artists "Atelier Dramatic of Beirut". It was a period of splendor for the avant-garde movement of the theatre in Lebanon, which has persisted until the outbreak of the civil war in 1975, and during which she presented as a stage director and an actress, theatre plays, feature films and television series in Lebanon and in the Arab world. Back in the mid-80's, based in Amman in Jordan, she founded the group of "Actors Arab" ; it was the first troupe to bring together players from 13 arab countries. The troupe performed in different countries of the region until the "Royal Albert Hall" in London. As an actress, Nidal has appeared in numerous tv productions, arab and lebanese. She revisits the Arab poetry by giving a hundred recitals innovators that have enabled the arab public, european and american to appreciate in a new form, the verse and the prose of the past. In 1994, she founded a cultural institution, Masrah El Madina, which quickly became one of the biggest centres of cultural and artistic in Beirut. She currently leads the Association of Theatre Al Madina for Art and Culture. She has received several distinctions, national and international, including the French government as a Chevalier of Arts and Letters in 1997.
