Jaroslava Pokorná was born in 1946 in Prague, Czechoslovakia [now Czech Republic]. Jaroslava Pokorná is the daughter of the writer, the translator and the theatre scientist and dramaturge Jaroslav Pokorný (1920-1983) and her translator Mary Humble (1922-1969), father's second wife was actress Libuše Pešková (1924-1994). Jaroslav therefore grew up in a cultural environment, and already in high school she performed in the drama club, then studied acting at DAMU (1968), in parallel, she appeared as a guest in the Realistic theatre of Zdeněk Nejedlý theatre and the Vinohrady theatre, after the completion of studies (1968) got into the Realistic theatre, where she worked for nearly a quarter-century (1968-1991).
