Jana Štěpánková was born in 1934 in Zilina, Czechoslovakia [now Slovakia]. Daughter of the famous actor Zdeněk Štěpánek, great-granddaughter of Czech poet Vítězslav Hálka and sister of actors Peter and Martin Štěpánek started as ochotnice alongside his father.
