Lamberg was born in New York City, the son of Suzanne, a public high school teacher, and Marc Lamberg. His father is Jewish and his mother is French Canadian; Lamberg considers himself to be a "cultural Jew." Lamberg attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he majored in Geography.
