Movie Reviews

Apollo Guide - 7/10 by Jamie Gillies Out of place and not quite interesting enough to hold our attention, which is a disappointment, because it has many of the elements that can make for greatness.
Combustible Celluloid - 7/10 by Jeffrey M. Anderson Kazan's rigid directing kills the spontaneity of nearly every cast member.
The Film Stage - 6/10 by Jared Mobarak The Last Tycoon is an intriguing entry to the period gangster genre that depicts the weight of triad influence in 1930s Shanghai at the cusp of war with an invading Japan.
Time Out - 6/10 by Geoff Andrew De Niro proves again how well he can carry a part, and is particularly good in scenes dealing with the day-to-day business of movie-making.
Cinema em Cena - 6/10 by Pablo Villaça Interessante na maior parte do tempo, o filme acaba sendo prejudicado pela fraca subtrama romântica e pelo final medíocre (adaptar um livro inacabado pode ser má idéia).
Chicago Reader - 6/10 by Jonathan Rosenbaum Elia Kazan now admits that he directed this adaptation, his last Hollywood film, for the money. Unfortunately, it looks it.
User Review - 10/10 by Walter M An underrated movie, Robert De Niro is as good as he turned out in later films. The film has a slow pace, a little incoherent storyline(screenplay: Harold Pinter.) However, a must watch for film lovers. The parting monologue is a stunner.
User Review - 8/10 by Cle S F.Scott Fitzgerald Novel played by De Niro, of course I loved it.But I believe Kirk Douglas Did this Movie too, maybe a slightly different title, & it was even better. The Carperbaggers, I believe
User Review - 6/10 by Grant M There are some great scenes in this film but the pace is lethargic and De Niro appears disengaged.
User Review - 6/10 by Ralph D By no means a masterpiece, Elia Kazan's last film is slow and ragged. Nevertheless it's well worth watching, mainly because of Mr R. De Niro's brilliant portrayal of a charismatic film producer.
User Review - 4/10 by Private U tony curtis is barely in this. his character just goes to de niro for help with his ED.
User Review - 4/10 by Mark B Kazin's film of F. Scott Fitzgerald's unfinished final novel doesn't move like it ought to. Consider that Harold Pinter wrote the script, and consider that the movie takes place where Kazin spent most of his career working, and considering the A cast, and you shake your head. WTF? Overlit, undershot, the film is merely pro forma, and the deviations from Fitzgerald's desperate novel make no sense.
