Comic sensation Will Ferrell (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, ANCHORMAN) plays Ricky Bobby, a figure who is at once laughably ridiculous, infuriating, and loveable. Ricky Bobby, with his bleached-blonde wife, cute sons Walker and Texas Ranger, and dim sidekick Cal (award-winning actor John C. Reilly, flexing his considerable comedic muscle), has got it made. He is NASCAR's most popular driver, and nearly every aspect of his life is endorsed by a recognisable product. Yet his racetrack kingdom is not unshakeable: two formidable opponents, his unpleasable father, Reese (Gary Cole), and a flashy new opponent, the openly gay French import Jean (played by a hilarious Sasha Baron Cohen, known to millions as Borat and Ali G), threaten to hijack his crown and expose his vulnerabilities. Though it is one of America's most popular sporting events, the association of NASCAR with uneducated, backwards rednecks seems cemented into the American consciousness. So the brilliant comedy TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY, is not just a side-splitting series of slapstick pratfalls and over-the-top accents, but a lens into an important part of American culture. Though many of the jokes are easy laughs (having Ferrell run around shirtless is a guaranteed guffaw-fest), the script (co-written by Farrell and Adam McKay) is nuanced and intelligent, lending its characters much more sympathy and complexity than dumber comedies are want to do. Every performer--from Ferrell to Amy Adams (as Susan, Bobby's fawning assistant)--tackles his or her part with joy and relish. A hilarious humdinger of a movie with smarts and savvy, TALLADEGA NIGHTS ensures Ferrell's position as one of comedy's shining talents.

Let me tell you about a movie I love. Untamed, inventive and hysterically funny, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is a guaranteed audience pleaser, a work of comic genius from Anchorman star Will Ferrel.

Movie Reviews

Los Angeles Times - 7.0/10 by Kenneth Turan A bit of a mess, but it is a genial mess, and one that will make you laugh. Which is the whole idea.
USA Today - 7.5/10 by Claudia Puig Like "Anchorman," the secret to the inspired absurdity of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is in the improv.
TV Guide - 7.5/10 by Angel Cohn Those who appreciate Ferrell's sense of humor will be utterly entertained by his efforts to kick it into high gear.
Austin Chronicle - 6.7/10 by Toddy Burton Silly, inconsistent, and completely frivolous, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby also happens to be one of the funniest movies this side of 2006.
Variety - 7.0/10 by Robert Koehler Simultaneously teasing and loving a subject doesn't make for easy comedy, but writer-star Will Ferrell and director/co-writer Adam McKay pull it off with good-ol'-boy good nature in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
New York Post - 7.5/10 by Kyle Smith For the first half-hour or so, this thing works like white lightning.
Baltimore Sun - 8.3/10 by Michael Sragow Will Ferrell does chicken-fried comedy right: with crackpot discipline and stripped-to-the-beer-belly courage.
Slate - 7.0/10 by Dana Stevens As good as a summer comedy about NASCAR has any right to be, with fine actors tucked into every nook and cranny.
