Movie Reviews

New York Observer - 8/10 by Rex Reed It keeps you tensed and anxious and never sure of how anything will turn out. You get your money's worth.
Cinemalogue.com - 6/10 by Todd Jorgenson The concept might have worked better as a short, where the bookend action sequences would have had more impact and the extended middle stretch wouldn't have included so many silly twists and misguided stabs at moral complexity.
Los Angeles Times - 6/10 by Michael Rechtshaffen This overly talky, slackly executed game of cat-and-mouse comes off as cheesy rather than chilling.
Village Voice - 6/10 by Pete Vonder Haar Standoff holds up as a welcome alternative to its more strident brethren.
Slant Magazine - 5/10 by Chuck Bowen Standoff isn't quite inspired, but it coasts on unexpected modesty of professionalism.
Movie Nation - 4/10 by Roger Moore Tasty trash talk and one-liners, solid cast, dull thriller.
Movie Mezzanine - 3/10 by Mallory Andrews What should be a simple genre piece is overly complicated by the unfocused ambitions of its director.
User Review - 8/10 by chilledbee It's a pity that anything that has a hint of religiosity is killed by critics. This movie despite the poor reviews was actually pretty good. the performances were solid as Thos. Janes portrays an interrupted suicide and Larry Fishbourne, using his native Georgian accent, an interrupted hired killer. Sometimes interruptions work out well; and sometimes you should just let it go and move on, but it's hard to tell which in the beginning. We enjoyed it. Music was horrible.
User Review - 6/10 by James L There is a lot to like about this film... Including the slow methodical dialogue sequences which set the story up for an interesting ending. Yet, what impressed me the most, was the almost constant level of tension I felt throughout the entire Standoff...It's the type of film which can keep the viewer tuned in to every word and move, from start to finish ! Solid 3 Stars !
User Review - 6/10 by Derrick H I liked this movie. Not your average action movie but it has it's moments. Laurence Fishburn plays a hit man chasing a little girl who saw his face as he went about his job killing three people. He chases her to Thomas Jayne's house, where he is there wallowing in his own pain, and problems. There is a standoff, let the girl go so I can kill her, and I will leave is Fishburns offer. If not, I kill you both. Now this is where the movie can get boring, two guys in a standoff for 90 minutes, but Fishburne's performance is riveting. He is masterful as a dedicated professional killer coupled with a slice of pure insanity. Thus the psychological battle begins. Jayne is good, but Fishburne is simply terrific.
User Review - 6/10 by Jocey D It's tense but there's not much going on. There's no surprises or twists. It's all very dry and predictable.
User Review - 2/10 by royphishooh Ninety minutes of total tedium. Laurence Fishburne has become the actor directors turn to if they can't afford Samuel Jackson. Director Adam Alleca (who is also responsible for writing this rubbish) has managed to make a film that is even more badly written than his vile screenplay for the remake of "Last House On The Left".
